Q: I am not related to speed, but I want the best quality and reliability . what do you think is the best?
I heard the number of MSI CD-RWs are the same as a number of models BENQ . good?
Thanks
Re:I have been using a Liteon 48x-12x-48x for about a month without any problems.

I got the Lite-on 40×12x48! Got it for $125AU, which must be about about $60US. Great drive so far…. no coasters, plus it's a really quiet drive when it comes to reading CD's…. much quieter than my Samsung 16×48 DVD drive.
Thanks for the contributions everyone!
Cheers
Make it a 48X Lite-On…simple firmware flash! Also, even if you don't choose to do that, get the latest firmware for it because they added Mt. Rainer support and changed the drive from Z-CLV to P-CAV in the latest firmwares…:)

Re:Hmm… learn something new everyday… I didn't know MSI made CD-RW drives…
If you were on a budget, get the Lite-on, it's not as reliable as Plextor, but reliable enough. You don't hear too many stories about Lite-on drives dying.
Re:I'm considering the Lite On 42×12x48 (LTR-48125W) or Plextor 42×12x40 (PX-W4012TA/SW). I'm comfortable with either in terms of general reliability; all else being equal, I'd go with the less expensive Lite On.
My constraining factor is that I'm planning to be running Linux only on my new machine. Neither drive is listed in various hardware compatibility lists (like at Redhat or lhd.zdnet.com). Lite On's site is remarkably un-Linux-friendly, while Plextor talks about Linux support but makes it unclear how easy this is. Am I right in guessing that this doesn't really matter, and general tools now common for Linux will work with these drives and others just fine? Any user experience / issues with these (or other recent Plextor or Lite On) drives in Linux?
(My first AnandTech Forums post! Yippee!)
Re:I've just found out that the Lite-on uses Z-CLV, while the LG GCE-8400B uses P-CLV. Apparently P-CLV is better…. any opinions now?

I guarantee you, however, that the actual insides of the drive are bought straight from Plextor.
Ummm…no.
I've never heard this before.

Re:Thanks for the good news
Looks like Lite-on is the way to go!
Thanks for the opinions!

Re:I'll recommend the Lite-On as well, but don't be disappointed because you didn't get a Plextor, because… well… you did. Lite-On uses the exact same drives as Plextor. I don't know who MSI uses, but nobody beats Plextor in terms of reliability. Plus, Plextors come wiht EZCD Creator in order to appeal to the "dumba$$" market, while Lite-On comes with Nero. The best burning software in town. The only difference between the Plextor and the Lite-On (as far as I know) is the tray that holds the CD. I guarantee you, however, that the actual insides of the drive are bought straight from Plextor.
Re:I would happily get a Plextor if they wern't so darn expensive….. they cost $225AU, where the LG, Lite-on and MSI cost around $115AU
Keep the opinions flowing!

Re:I have a Lite-On 32*12*48 and have found it works nicely, I've written about 30 cd's or possibly close to 40 in the last 4 months or so and it seems to still be working nicely, plus it came with a handy copy or Nero 5.5 which I like.
Re:Main concern is reliability? Get a Plextor, you won't be disappointed.
Re:I meant 40×12x40 for the LG… a website just had it listed differently.

Re:40×40x12?
wierd speed…
I like LG. Quality products, but you can "overclock" the lite-on's
Re:Thanks for the quick replies! How reliable is Lite-on as a brand?
BTW also can get the LG 40×40x12 for same price
Thanks
Re:Definitely the Lite-On.
Re:Get the Lite-On, then flash it to a 48X…works great!
