Is there a way to recover files after formatting? Sniff . snif . [partition]

18 Jul

Q: My friend (not me) has the wrong partition formatted and deleted all files with his academic stuff. Is there any hope for him to recover deleted data?

I mean, if the data is not overwritten (I really do not know if they really were), maybe they are still there and who knows . Perhaps there is a way to recover?

Who can help on this?

Speed format in Win2K Server [home server] [partition]

18 Jun

Q: I have a Win2K server at home and recently added an 60GB drive (a lot of video!). While I never had a disk that big, it looks like the format process for a long time – as hours.

Is this normal?

Also, I wound with the drive type that “dynamic” and the layout is “simple”. The drive system and Basic Partition respectively.

Is this OK?

Is there a way to change the order in hard disks in Windows Explorer? [logical partitions] [partition]

21 May

Q: I have two hard drives, each divided into two logical partitions.

They show:

Drive 1: Distribution 1
Drive 2: Distribution 2
Drive 1: Distribution 1
Drive 2: Distribution 2

I would want them to be:

Drive 1: Distribution 1
Drive 1: Partition 2
Drive 2: Partition 1
Drive 2: Distribution 2

This is not really a big deal, but I bet that if someone can be done in this forum will know how.

One another q

Installing New Hard Drive – What is the best OS and transfer files over? [installing a new hard drive] [partition]

15 Apr

Q: I am installing a new hard drive.

How should I transfer my WindowsXP operating system and all my files over?

I own Partition Magic, but am not sure if it will do the trick if I just copy my Windows partition 0.

WindowsXP will also give me an headache when I try to do this? Would it be better to just start over from scratch?

Any way to restore a corrupted file system? [disk management] [partition]

05 Jan

Q: I have a friends computer here, and he has a 120GB drive, partitioned into a 14gb partition for the OS, and a 99gb one for the rest. The 99gb partition is fine, but the 14gig is the more important, is not recognized under disk management. It says its healthy and active, but has no file system mounted on. Is there a way to “repair” the file system, while not damaging or removing any of the files on the disk?
