Explain this dynamic IP question [dynamic ip addresses] [dsl modem]

18 Jun

Q: Heres my question:

From an ISPs view, what is the advantage of dynamic IP addresses for DSL customers?

The point of DSL (except speed) is always on and unless I restart my computer, my machine is always connected. Although EarthLink has a dynamic IP addresses to me when my DSL modem connection, I actually always using an IP address from them. What is the difference from their perspective if changes periodically and is always the same?

How do I configure my router to work with PPPoE? [netgear fs605] [dsl modem]

20 May

Q: I just SBC Yahoo! DSL service, it uses the PPPoE protocol. I have two computers, a desktop and a laptop. The DSL modem is connected to the Netgear FS605 (http://www.netgear.com/products/prod_details.asp?prodID=130).

The problem I have is that I can not get both computers connect to the service at the same time. Ive read some posts and many people say they simply router the user ID and password and the router provides PPPoE for telling them. That sounds good, but I have no idea how

12 Mar

Q: original problem: I bought that WebRamp 700S hardware firewall, and have it connected to the DSL modem to the WAN side, connected to my PC on the LAN side. I get in the browser setup for the WR, and set it for PPPoE, making it the login / PSWD to my ISP. My brother can not access any SSL sites on my network [dsl modem] [wireless connections]

17 Feb

Q: Not sure why it does it. I even reset the router and tried wired and wireless connections in an attempt to connect. Does not work. Other sites can be connected fine, but everything is SSL and will not connect. Using dial-up that he can connect to the sites, so this makes me think it is a network problem or router problem. As I said, I reset, and he is still no connection. Ive checked everything twice, so I am open to solutions. The DSL modem, rebooted, and tried the latest drivers for it.

I can not even 25ft away with it even if it is around a few corners. I can not really move because I connect the router to the DSL modem and I would have to rewire move that.

Bridged DSL Modem does not work with router, but works with PC [dsl modem] [strange problems]

25 Dec

Q: Hi,

I spent my whole day yesterday trying to figure out who to my ADSL modem to configure it as a bridge rather than a router. The goal was to hand the modem off the public IP address instead of a private individual and the inefficient bypass NATíng was doing (was imprisoned during heavy torrenting grafting). Later I would configure my WRT54G to do the routing as I had before. I have a summary of making the strange latter.

To problems, my modem is in what is called ZIPB
