Radeon users: Anyone tried the new drivers in January 16/2001 yet? [win2000 drivers] [whistler]

Q: Someone pointed out ATIs trade up offer How can I get a 64MB VIVO for $ 275 – $ 50MIR (Canadian) and I like it!

I had a 64MB Radeon Vivo in October and had to get rid of it due to driver problems . . but Im willing to try another ATi . I absolutely loved the card! Nice hardware . So how are the drivers. At the moment Im using Win2000, but I kind of veered away to . but Im still working on because of the upcoming , which is based roughly on the right Win2000?

So anyways . Now I know I can get the card for about $ 40 more than a GeForce2MX . but how are the drivers?

Re:One problems that ATI's have with Via's chipsets is the fact that it overwrites Via's VGART with its own ATIGART that doesn't work to well with Via's platforms. Generally, reinstalling Via's 4 in 1 drivers helps though.

Re:I have a Duron 800@918/Radeon 32DDR and with the new drivers I have finally pulled Win98 off my system.

Win2K only.

The new drivers gave me huge increases in speed on Win2K.

Re:I'm using the latest 2K drivers too with no probs. And we thought the term "stable gaming system" was an oxymoron………;)

Re:Eh, I didn't have any problems with my VIA motherboard in Win2k nor Win98, though it's a MSI 6309 (P3) and not an Athlon.

Re:<< How close is your rig to this: >>

I don't use the Via but I have a Sony and dual boot 2K. No problems whatsoever. It appears there are no more issues with Radeon and Via than there are with nVidia and Via. Intels would seem to be SLIGHTLY more compatible.

Re:guy

<<The newest Win2k drivers are supurb>>

What a ray of HOPE!! I was about to get the Radeon 64meg VIVO at its current price, and then ran into lots of bad news about Win2k drivers.

How close is your rig to this:

Via KT133A mobo (Abit KT7A-R)
Triniton monitor (20")
Win2K

It sounds like all three of these have had problems in past Win2k drivers. All fixed now???

Re:Bump again…seriously considering this Radeon Vivo.

Re:I've had no problems whatsoever with the new drivers. I went ahead and upgraded to DirectX 8 while I was at it.

Re:Ya…listen to Taz…this " suck" thing is a big farce…the timedemo's I've run (UT, DeusEx, Quake)only have win2k behind win98se by about 5-8%…and win2k is very stable!!

And of course…the picture is just awesome…I'm watchin' Thin Red Line as I write this.

Re:I think these newest 7072 drivers are the best yet. They are just like the 7068's IMO except aren't beta. I heard it drops some peoples 3dmark by maybe 50. WOW MY SYNTHETIC BENCHMARK.

Re:The newest 2K drivers are superb.

Re:I haven't any problems with Win2K and the Radeon. I used it in Win2K for about 3 months and it ran everything I threw at it. Primarily Quake3 and UT.

Re:Drivers in Win2k are actually stable (at least when I was using win2k), just not the fastest (probably 10-20% slower than Win9x? depends).

Re:lol…I have a Voodoo3…and I'm not really pleased with my experiences with nVidia in the past…TNT2 didn't work on my K6-2 motherboard very well, GeForce doesn't work on my Athlon motherboard…..maybe GeForce2 also? I don't know

Re:How are the drivers compared to the box?…
I have the new drivers on my AIW Radeon, and they have been great. Oni is in working order. Hmm..
Box Drivers vs new ones
new one shave FSAA enabled…. but that causes lock up when I ran quake3 trial version
More options in the direct x 3d/opengl menu
The new drivers actually implement some features that Radeon was told to enable…
but I heard that fog still doesn't work
Overall, I like the new drivers, but they aren't the ones written for the Radeon core (will those ever come out?)

Wow, you are willing to give ATi another chance?… you must be a loyal fan, or have a crappy card now.
