MX700 batteries die . what to get? [aa batteries] [mx700]

02 Sep

Q: Im using the batteries that came with my since I bought it a few months ago. It seems that they are dying out cuz now they will not even last a few hours now without the flashing red LED indicating low power.

Would using regular in the mean time, okay?
What kind of batteries should I get to replace them? Capacity wise, etc. .

Id RTFM but I do not have

Re:mine died because the charger one day charged the mouse all weird and the mouse got really hot. The plastic got so hot it warped, the mouse still works now, but it takes a lot of work to get it to charge.

Re:Hmmm … too many people having the same problem here, so maybe there is a design flaw or something in the charger. All I can say is mine works fine with no wiggling needed. Guess maybe I got lucky (?). Mine is relatively new though.

Of course, I just jinxed myself and as soon as I'm done typing this my mouse & charger will start acting up.

Any of you guys called Logitech about this? If so, what did they say? If there's this many people having the same prob, they must know about it (whether or not they'll admit to it may be another story, however ….).

Personally, I wouldn't put up with too much hassle. If mine starts behaving like some of the ones you guys are describing, I'm sending it in for warranty repair or replacement (assuming the warranty is still in effect). If they hassle me, that'll be the last time I buy one of their products.

Re:the is a great mouse. It's the best wireless optical mouse i've used to-date.

with that said, my one big complaint is with the flaky recharger cradle. I usually get it on the first try, but it will sometimes take 2-3 reseats before I get the green indicator.

try letting the batteries drain to zero charge, and then let them charge up to full.

Re:buy some new reachargeables, 2000nimh+.

i've had this thing for about a year now, so i think my warranty's gone, convenient as all of a sudden the cradle won't charge anything anymore, in fact it seems to drain them now.

i've tried 3 different brand of batteries in the mouse and they all behave the same, if i charge them on a seperate charger and put them in the mouse they work fine (better then the original ones actually), but as soon as i put a charged battery in the mouse and then put the mouse in the cradle, it will appear that its charging it, but when i come back 2 hours later and try to use the mouse, the mosue will start blinking that its low, and windows will actually prompt me with the same message.

i've had the wiggle problem since day one as well, but lived with it because it only took a little nudge one way or the other to get it seated properly, overall i'm dispappointed with this unit. my next mouse will be new ms wireless, apparently the batteries last much longer in it and i won't have to put up with any poorly designed cradles, i guess this is what you get for outsourcing your engineering designs to 'other' countries…

Re:yes, dont ever charge normal batteries. can cause them to explode.

Re:i wiggle too, its the design. the guide thing in the center doesn't make for always accurate seating, u gotta wiggle into place if not lucky. and the charge light takes a sec to start so theres no instant feedback. u gotta step back and wait a sec tof giure out if u put it in right. just a design prob. as for bats, do NOT charge normal batteries ever. nihm are cheap and easy to find.. mah ratings written on the side. ones that came with hte unit are 1700mah,. even cheap ones at frys these days at 2000mah. just think of it as a measurement of total power… so about 15% more life. higher ratings are out there, but after a while, bang for buck drops u know.

Re:I don't know about that though. I've had to wiggle the mouse around to get it charging since I first got it… which was around January I believe.

Re:There you go. Looks to me like you've identified the problem. With mine, I don't have to wiggle the mouse in the charger to get it to charge right. Maybe it's something simple like a bent or loose contact or something on the mouse or charger? Or maybe it got banged around during shipping or something and something in there is loose. Who knows. I'd send it back if it's under warranty, but that's just me.

Re:Thanks for the info guys.

I'll buy some new batteries and test it out. If infact there's a problem with my charger, I'll contact Logitech.

The charger is a bit of a nuisance…. I have to wiggle the mouse around a bit to get it charging.

Re:Greetings:

If it interests you, I called Logitech before I purchased my Cordless Elite Duo (with the same mouse as you have) and they told me the NiMH batteries are good for about 400 charges. If you've only had your mouse a few months, something else is probably wrong. (I assume you know that it takes 3 full charges for the batteries to reach their full charge capacity and that the first couple charges will yield comparatively short usage times? That's what Logitech's installation guide says, anyway.)

Sounds to me like you have a charger failure or some other hardware failure (maybe the mouse itself?). Your mouse should still be under warranty, so try calling Logitech at (702) 269-3457 and tell them about your sitch. That's their customer support number (and they're in Fremont, Calif.).

Re what batteries to use in the interim, Dark Ameba is right in that you can use other batteries, but DO NOT put the mouse in the charger cradle. Any batteries other than NiMH will, at the least, probably leak and, at the worst, may explode and annihilate everything within 50 miles of you. (Okay, they won't really annihilate everything within 50 miles, but they could explode. :D )

BTW, if you'd like a tip (and don't already know this), the lighter color your mouse pad, the longer the batteries will last with this mouse. The Logitech rep told me that the mouse draws more power (and also tracks a bit less accurately) when its optical sensor has to read off a dark background surface. So know that! :)

Oh, and NiMH batteries can be bought at places like Fry's, Radio Shack, camera shops, and those sorts of places. Target's camera dept. might even carry 'em (?). Circuit City would also probably have them. They're pretty inexpensive too — I saw a Fry's ad just a few days ago for a 10-pack for $10. I don't think you need new batteries right now, but I thought I'd clue you in on that for future reference.

Good luck, mate. :)

Ken

Re:I'd suggest 2000mAh or more batteries. They can be had for less than $1 ea.

Re:Any NiMH batteries will do. I just looked at the batteries on my mouse and just realized that logitech gave 1700mAh batteries…Not too bad.

Re:Regular batteries will be fine until you buy some new chargables, long as you don't try to charge em ;) I use some Energizer NM-H rechargables in mine and they work great. Any brand will do, as long as they're NMH (nickle-metal hydride)
