Q: Hi All, I have an Compaq Evo N600C laptop that I installed on Windows 98 and it is registering as a PII under Windows and Everest thinks it is a PIII with 800 MHz.
They are both wrong, it is a PIII with 1200MHz ! Anyone know how to fix this? Or what the problem might be?
When I had Windows XP installed everything correctly.
Thanks register!
EDIT u003cnet realized this should probably technical support, how do I move?
Re:wow, that makes so much sense, yup, put the power cable back in and its up to 1200 MHz according to Everest.
However, I'm still bummed that Windows will not see it as a PIII
Re:It is probably because your P3 is using SpeedStep where it dynamically adjusts the speed to save battery life. So when it says it is running at 800Mhz it is running at a lower speed to save battery. Windows 98 my not recognize P3 CPUs correctly. I have not used it in a long time on a P3 and I do not remember if Win98 properly recognizes P3s.
Re:well this is no good, I tried to do that in there is a password! I'll have to call my dad and see if he remembered what it is.
Everest is stating 800 Mhz, 6X133. But when I was running it in XP it said 1200MHz 9X133.
Re:POST stands for power on self test. When you first start the compo hit del and go to the BIOS and look around in there.
Re:How do I figure that out? I'm afraid that I don't know what POST is
Re:What is it called during POST?
